Seattle's Late Spring Rhododendrons

Near the Water Tower in Volunteer Park
Seattle enjoys an extremely long flower season for its wide variety of rhododendron. They start putting on their colorful show in late February and a few flowers are still on display in early July. The northwest’s mild, moist climate makes for ideal growing conditions for these showy plants. Seattle enjoys a wide variety of rhododendron that come in a variety of attractive colors.
I am posting this entry after seeing a lot of late spring rhododendron on my recent early June visit. One of the most impressive displays I saw in a park or garden was at Volunteer Park. Its mature rhododendron range up to 20 feet tall and put on a grand display of flowers against the backdrop of the Olmsted designed landscaping.
Enjoy these images of one of Seattle’s most beloved flowering plants before the long rhododendron season comes to a quiet halt in a few weeks.

This beautiful maroon/deep pink rhododendron is in the Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition and it matches the color of the crystal tower next to it.
