INTRODUCTION

Seattle has several tiny parks that are real gems.  This little 1.5 acre park on the eastern flank of Queen Anne Hill offers superb vistas but very few people know about it. The park offers great views of south Lake Union, Capitol Hill, and the skyline of Seattle.

The park is named for Werner Kracke who adopted the nickname “Bhy” because he liked the popular expression “by cracke”.  Mr. Kracke donated the land for this park to preserve its great views.

The expression "by kracke" became extremely popular in the late 1800's.  One person that used the expression was Seattle resident Werner Kracke.  He liked it so much that he adapted "Bhy" as his nickname.  Mr. Kracke donated the money to develop this park.

The park is carved into several levels on the eastern flank of Queen Anne Hill.  It has picnic tables, a water fountain, a children's play area, and nice landscaping.

You come to this park because of the fabulous views of downtown and the south Lake Union area.  Compared to the tourist magnet Kerry Park, Bye Kracke Park is almost deserted.  It is a peaceful place to enjoy Seattle's great vistas.

The park is built on several levels and it is not built to accommodate people that have difficulty climbing due to its steep walking trails.

DIRECTIONS

The park is located on the eastern flank of Queen Anne Hill at 1215 Fifth Avenue North.
