Our mission at Dazzling Places.com is to help you explore Seattle and find the area’s scenic places. We like to feature retail establishments that are beautiful places.
Occidental Avenue is one of the most attractive streets in the Pioneer Square District and we would like to feature Glasshouse Studio, a lovely retail establishment located on the street. Founded in 1972, Glasshouse is the oldest glassblowing studio in the Northwest. The greater Seattle area is one of the country’s premier centers for glass art and it is the home of Dale Chihuly and the Pilchuck Glass School. Glasshouse Studio grew out of Seattle’s strong tradition of glass art.
Glasshouse is a combination working glass art hotshop and a retail store for glass art. In the hotshop, you can get within a few feet of the artists and watch as they craft their colorful creations from globs of glass. They are happy to answer any questions about how they make glass art. Glassblowing demonstrations take place from 10:00 am to 11:30 am and from 1:00 pm to 4 pm Monday through Saturday.

The retail store is a mini-museum of glass art. You can find every size and color of glass creation from jewelry to massive lighting fixtures. Glasshouse is filled from the floor to the ceiling with sparkling, brightly-colored glass art in a wide variety of shapes, colors, and textures. It is a treat to stroll around this store and marvel at the lovely art on display.
Max Maxwell, one of the studio owners, told me that Glasshouse sells art made by its own employees as well as over 40 other glass artists.
Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm.
