Dale Chihuly Art Installation in Tacoma's Union Station

Tacoma's Union Station    Dale Chihuly Glass Art Installation

Tacoma is well worth a visit.  It has a number of interesting attractions to see including a restored historic train station, a zoo, several museums, and a number of Dale Chihuly art pieces and installations. It is 40 miles south of downtown Seattle.

You can take a Sound Transit bus from downtown Seattle to Tacoma. It is a deal for $7.00 round trip. You don't have to fight traffic, pay for parking, or buy gas for a car. It is about an hour ride and it lets you out in front of the museum district.

Tacoma enjoys several installations and collections of Dale Chihuly's glass art. Please click here for more information about Dale Chihuly's glass art.

Museum of Glass

This museum and its Chihuly Bridge of Glass are one of the most beautiful attractions in the Puget Sound area.  Dedicated to glass art, it is anchored by a spectacular hot shop where Museum staff and visiting artisans demonstrate to visitors the techniques of making glass art.  The building itself is a dramatic piece of architecture and is surrounded by several glass installations on the Museum grounds.

Chihuly Bridge of Glass

The Chihuly Bridge of Glass is an important part of the Museum of Glass.  It features three large and colorful installations on the 500-foot pedestrian bridge that connects the Museum of Glass with downtown Tacoma and spans I-705 and the Tacoma train tracks.

Tacoma Art Museum

The Tacoma Art Museum is a delightful regional museum. It is housed in a handsome building situated in the midst of beautiful downtown Tacoma and it features a lovely collection of art including the largest collection of Dale Chihuly's glass art.

LeMay--America's Car Museum

The latest addition to the fine collection of museums in Seattle and Tacoma is Tacoma’s  LeMay--America’s Car Museum.  This museum will become one of the greater Seattle and Tacoma area’s major attractions. The museum held its grand opening recently and I attended the press preview.  Check out our introduction to this spectacular museum.

Walrus Swimming in Tacoma's Point Defiance Zoo

Tacoma's Point Defiance Zoo              walrus swimming

The Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium is charming. It is set in the picturesque Point Defiance Park that overlooks Puget Sound. The zoo has several highlights. One of the zoo’s favorite attractions is a tank with viewing stations where you see a huge walrus swimming to and fro. Watching this massive animal turn on a dime in front of your face is a treat.

The Zoo is five miles from downtown Tacoma. You can take public transportation for the trip.
